How Spool Earns the Right to Speak for You
Think about the last time someone made a call for you. A friend rang the pharmacy while you were stuck in a meeting. You gave them your date of birth and your prescription number, and nothing else. You didn’t hand over your wallet. If the pharmacist asked for something unexpected and private, you’d want a quick text before your friend answered.
Spool is built on that instinct. It makes phone calls for you, and it treats every detail about you as something it borrows for one call and hands everything back after it's done.

Why AI Assistants Needed Rethinking
Why AI Assistants Needed Rethinking
AI assistants got far more capable this year, and the stories that followed were not all reassuring. One assistant sent an email on its owner’s behalf without checking first. Another reportedly deleted more than 200 emails after its owner had told it to confirm before acting; the instruction fell out of the AI’s memory as the conversation grew. One early user disconnected an assistant from her inbox, and three hours later it sent her a summary of her email anyway. Elsewhere, what people tell chat assistants now feeds the ads they see.

These came from different products, but they share a weakness. The promise to ask first lived somewhere fragile: a settings page, the fine print, or the AI’s own recollection of what you said. When that slipped, the promise went with it.

We built Spool so the asking can’t slip.

We Built It for Our Own Families
We Built It for Our Own Families
Spool wasn’t built to pass an audit. It was built for our own families. We wanted to hand off the calls and errands that eat up our weeks without handing over our personal lives. Before Spool, our team built software for Fortune 500 financial and health companies. Our CTO, Christine Viveiros, brought that same rigor to Spool, designing every protection on this page to the standard she’d hold for her own family. We’re our own most paranoid users, so we built a system we trust.

Asking is Built into Every Call
Asking is Built into Every Call
Before Spool dials, it shows you an approval card for that call. You can change anything on it first, and an approval to share a sensitive detail always expires when the call ends. Each approval is saved as a record tied to the exact number Spool is calling, so permission to call your dentist never stretches to anyone else.

You Approve Details, Not Just Tasks
You Approve Details, Not Just Tasks
Most assistants ask a version of “OK to proceed?” Spool shows you what it will share. Your name, your appointment date and your policy number each appear on the card, marked with where they came from: something you saved, something Spool worked out, or something it still needs from you.

The voice on the call receives only the items you approved. If the business asks for something new halfway through, you get a fresh request for that one item, and Spool waits for your answer.

Some Things the AI Never Sees

Card numbers, account numbers and other sensitive details live in a vault encrypted on your device. Our servers hold only the encrypted version, locked with a key we never receive. That’s arithmetic, not policy.

When a call needs one of those values, you approve it for that business, on that call. Spool plays it from a separate –unstored– recording made for that moment, so the AI handling the conversation never has the number and never says it out loud. It can’t. The call recording pauses while it’s read out, and resumes afterwards.

Every Spool call opens the same way: the person who answers hears that a digital assistant is calling and that the call is recorded. You can’t turn that line off. Before dialing, Spool also checks the number against a list of people who’ve asked not to be called.

This matters for you as much as for them. Courts are hearing cases right now about AI that listened in on calls without telling anyone, and a generic “this call may be monitored” message hasn’t been enough to cover it. Spool says it plainly, every time.

Spool runs through roughly 100 practice call scenarios, and a live test suite (that is continuously growing, with a 1000+ live test count for the entire system) which checks it and never invents details. One check sounds small but isn’t: Spool must never call you “the user” or “the account holder” on a call. It speaks for you the way a capable assistant would, and keeps the machinery out of earshot.
